Raqqa – In coordination with the General Command of SDF, the military forces in Raqqa region announced the formation of its military council in a ceremony attended by the leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Women’s Protection Units, the Military Council of Tabqa , elders of the tribes, members of the civil administration institutions and the martyrs’ families. The ceremony began with a minute of silence in the memory of the martyrs’ lives, followed a statement read out the declaration by the commander of the military council of Raqqa, Farhan al-Askar who welcomed the attendees, and pointed to the goal of forming the military councils in accordance with the new structure, stressing that these councils are the center of decision-making and its main task is protecting the area and its inhabitants any threat.
According to what Al-Asker said, the main goal of forming the military councils is:
1-Unify all military and security forces in the region under one Leadership, which will further reinforcement the taken decisions.
2-Involve the local leaders in the decision-making mechanism widely and more effectively.
3- promote the institutional work within SDF by activating institutions and representing them in the Council.
4-Activating the role of women through the offices of women’s protection units (YPJ), because they played a key role in liberating the region of terrorism and its effective participation on the front lines of battles under the leadership of SDF.
The text of the statement:
After defeating ISIS and ending the military war against it. And as a result of the military expansion in the structure of the Syrian democratic forces, and the emergence of many local leaders who had played an active role struggling and liberating our people and our land from ISIS terrorism.” We have had new tasks to do, and we have begun to reorganize our forces on the basis of military councils.
The goals of the Military Council are as follows:
- Unification of military and security forces under one umbrella.
- Involve local leaders in the decision-making process more strongly.
3- Activating the military institutions and representation within the Council more.
The Military Council consists of:
- Local leaders. 2 – leaders of brigades. 3. leaders of regiments. 4. Officers of military offices in the region.
The Military Council is the center of decision-making to build a free and democratic Syria.
Depending on this basis, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units YPJ announce the formation of the Military Council in Raqqa.
