Raqqa – The Intellectuals’ Union of Raqqa opened on Thursday its new headquarter with a ceremony attended by the official, cultural and popular delegations at the former headquarters of Ittihad Private University in the city center.
The opening ceremony was attended by the civil and military councils and a large group of writers and intellectuals in north and east Syria and the people of the city.
It started with a minute of silence in the memory of the martyrs’ lives, followed by a speech on the behalf of the Civil Council of Raqqa delivered by the co-chair of the Cultural and Antiquities Committee Hassan Mustafa who welcomed the guests and said: “We are very happy today to meet each other in the opening of the new office of the Intellectuals’ Union. This is the result of the great efforts which have been made to restore the cultural spirit of the city”.
Al-Mustafa pointed out to the full readiness of the Civil Council and the Culture and Antiquities Committee to provide the necessary support.
The co-chair of the Intellectuals’ Union Abdul Rahman Al-Ahmad also delivered a speech in which he thanked the participants and their support for the opening of this cultural window after it has been closed for 8 years, and that they aim to restore its cultural brilliance and civilization role of Raqqa.
Al-Ahmad concluded by stressing that their headquarters will be a forum for all intellectuals, and the anniversary of the forthcoming activity of the Union, which is Rashid’s cultural festival, which will honor the elite of the people of Raqqa.
Shortly after the speeches ended, the wife of one of the martyrs cut the opening tape and the participants then toured the headquarters.
