Deir Ezzor – The Health Committee held yesterday a symposium on Leishmaniasis to raise awareness of the causes and sources of leishmaniasis outbreak and its symptoms and methods of prevention. The symposium was held at the conference hall at the Civil Council headquarters in Al-Kasra town .
The symposium was attended by administrators and members of the Civil Council, the Health Committee, women’s House, health centres and some of the town’s residents.
Abdul Rahim al-Ahmad, a member of the committee, spoke in his lecture about leishmaniasis and its symptoms and causes of its spread and methods of prevention and treatment, and stressed the role of household and public hygiene in combating the hotbeds for the spread of the contagious fly.
He noted that there are about 7,000 cases in Deir ez-Zor area, and they are under medical treatment.
The symposium included the distribution of leaflets on the disease, how to reduce its spread, prevention and treatment, and the discussion of some aspects of the skin disease with the committee members.
