Cotton harvest season begins in rural Raqqa
Agriculture in Raqqa province witnessed a significant decrease in the past years, during the period under control of daesh. The results and studies showed that the production of Raqqa from agricultural crops is continuously decreasing due to the damage caused to agricultural projects.
Today, after the liberation, agriculture has re-emerged, as it began days ago in the cotton harvest season in the liberated countryside of Raqqa, where farmers said there was a slight rise in production this year.
Al-Raqqa is the second largest cotton producer in Syria after Al-Hasaka. Al-Raqqa produced 120,000 tons of cotton in 2011. Production is expected to reach about 20 thousand tons this year, with a decrease of 70% , and production of less than 3.5 tons this year. Hectare in 2011 reached 5 tons.
Now the Agriculture Committee, in collaboration with the Civil Council, is trying to provide farmers with raw materials from fertilizers, medicines, pesticides and seeds at reasonable prices.
