The martyr Lorenzo Orsietti
"Every storm begins with a single raindrop, you must be that raindrop”
Lorenzo was born in February 1986 in the city of Florence, Italy. he was nicknamed Orso which means the bear in the Italian language. At the age of 16, he worked in different luxury restaurants as a cook and sommelier where he used to meet and deal with wealthy people. Otherwise; Lorenzo was tired of individualistic and consumerism society and the indifference towards the most vulnerable and forgotten sectors in the society.
” I’m fed up with serving rich people ” he told his friends once.
From the beautiful Florence to the fight against Daesh and Turkey
Lorenzo had met and inspired by the Italian activist (paolo Andolina) who fought with the SDF against Daesh in Syria.
In the Autumn of 2017, Lorenzo traveled to Syria where he joined the SDF and chose the code name (Tekosher Piling) which means the tiger in Kurdish language.
He was among the military groups that fought in Afrin against the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.
He also participated in the SDF’s last operation against Daesh in al-Baghouz area, the last strongholds of Daesh in Deir Ezzor countryside.
The Martyrdom
Lorenzo was not afraid of death, he always said ” it is better to add life to days than adding days to life”
On April 18th 2019, Lorenzo along with four comrades were martyred by Daesh ambush in al-Bagouz.
Later one a letter written by his hand was published in which he explained his ideology and why he joined the SDF.
. The letter reads “I don’t have any regrets and I died doing what I thought was right, defending the weak and staying true to my ideals of justice, equality and liberty.
So in spite of my premature departure, my life has been a success, and I’m almost certain that I went with a smile on my face. I couldn’t have asked for more ”
In June 2019, Lorenzo’s body was returned to Italy and buried in (Porte Sante) cemetery, in Florence
A library at the train station in the city of Berceto near Parma was named after him .
Moreover, the municipality of Rome has apporved a resolution to rename the park of Parco Nomentano on his name to be Prco Nomentano Lorenzo Orsetti Partigiano .
