Paolo Todd, a valiant Californian native, was raised in Pasadena and pursued his education at the University of Oregon, where he earned a degree from the Department of Religious Studies. Guided by a deep sense of purpose, Todd stood shoulder to shoulder with his tribal kin at Standing Rock in North Dakota, united in their staunch opposition against the ravages of capitalism and the ongoing injustices inflicted upon Native Americans.

Todd’s commitment transcended borders. On November 4, 2016, he embarked on a journey spanning thousands of miles, venturing from the United States to the far reaches of north and eastern Syria. Here, he rallied alongside a people also waging a tireless struggle for their liberty, joining the Syrian Democratic Forces in their unwavering battle against ISIS terrorism. He adopted the code name, Kawa Ahmed.

Todd participated in the Euphrates Wrath campaign,

and displayed unwavering courage and heroism as he confronted the heinous terrorism of ISIS, liberating Manbij, Tabqa, and Raqqa. Tragically, on January 15, 2017, Todd was martyred due to a landmine explosion in the village of Al-Suwaidiya, north of Raqqa.

A solemn farewell marked the departure of his body in a dignified ceremony held in Derick City. Eventually, he was repatriated to his homeland, the United States, where his memory continues to inspire and remind us of the unyielding fight against oppression and tyranny.
