As part of ongoing military operations to pursue the remnants of ISIS terrorist cells, our SDF’s Military Operations Teams (TOL), in participation with the International Coalition Forces, conducted a precise and targeted security operation targeting a senior ISIS leader.
The operation took place in the town of Al-Busayrah, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, following intelligence-gathering process on the movements of the terrorist Khaled Marbad Obaid, also known as “Abu Omar.” After confirming his location, our forces successfully surrounded the area, imposed a tight security cordon, and captured him.
Khaled Marbad Obaid was primarily responsible for the distribution of weapons and ammunition to ISIS sleeper cells, which have been carrying out terrorist attacks against our forces, security personnel, and civilians.
Despite our forces’ preoccupation to repel attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries on northern and eastern Syria, our forces remain committed to counterterrorism operations. We continue working tirelessly to dismantle ISIS cells, disrupt their financial and logistical networks, and eliminate the organization at its roots.
