The Commander-in-Chief of our Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), General Mazloum Abdi, held Yesterday a meeting with the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot in Hawler/Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The French Minister Barrot praised the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces in combating terrorism and emphasized the importance of providing the SDF with all necessary forms of support, given their continued fight against the terrorist organization ISIS, as well as their role in supporting stability and security in Syria in general.
The meeting also stressed the importance of inclusive political participation by Kurds and all Syrian components in the political process and the country’s governance to achieve political, security, and economic stability and begin the country’s reconstruction.
In a separate meeting, General Abdi met with the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani. The two sides focused on the necessity and importance of Kurdish unity. They discussed the political situation in Syria and the situation of the Kurds there, and exchanged views on the dangers of terrorism and confronting the threats of ISIS.
President Barzani expressed his full support for ongoing efforts to convene a Kurdish National Congress and reach outcomes that reflect the aspirations of Kurds in Rojava and across Syria. The two sides also discussed the future of Syria and the relationship between the SDF and the new transitional government in Damascus, following the political agreement signed between General Abdi and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in early March.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of inclusive political processes and the constitutional rights of all Syrian communities. They also addressed strategies for improving the economic situation in North and East Syria Region.
